My most important goal is to understand how my clients really live in a space, the components of their everyday lives that I can translate into a true warm, functional and beautiful home. I’m known for my intuitive ability to understand a space, no matter what condition its in. I love the challenge! I gravitate towards choices that make a room unique, rather than cookie cutter. Whether its a giant statement piece or a small detail, I love to discover wonderful things in unlikely places. I create rooms and homes that are beautiful, distinctive, and very personal, but also comfortable, functional and places of refuge. I connect with visceral things like balance and proportion and light, and the energy of how things flow. I include pieces that are timeless and classic...it could be a chunky brass lamp or a curvy cantilever chair, but you can’t tell whether it was made this year or made 50 years ago. And I can just as easily fall in love with the perfect tree stump or rock as I can with an expensive piece in a designer showroom.
As a fashion stylist and producer for photography shoots I met many of the most talented photographers, directors and creative people. Projects took me to some of the most beautiful places in the world, where I learned the nuances that make images feel honest and good...light, proportion, balance, flow. Details are what make a photograph memorable, and are what make a room personal and complete. Handling those details and putting the pieces together… timelines, managing people, keeping things on track and on budget… was the perfect foundation for my remodeling and design projects. Growing up in a beautiful 1920’s beach house in Malibu gave me an appreciation for older homes and their handmade imperfect elements, which lead to a passion for reconfiguring them to make them beautiful and functional in today’s vernacular. Living on the ocean gave me a visceral connection to nature…I am constantly inspired by it...the colors and textures, the subtle shifts in the light at different times of the day, and the considerable influence of nature on your mood and interior environment.
